This lecture will feature Katie Ludwig, a lighting technician who has worked in countless theaters and been part of numerous national tours, including Phantom of the Opera and Wicked.

Katie Ludwig is a lighting technician from Buffalo, NY who has worked internationally as a designer, programmer, and technician.
After graduating from the University at Buffalo in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre, she moved to Frankfurt, Germany. There she completed an apprenticeship as an event technician at the renowned techno club and event location Cocoon Club. After freelancing at the Cocoon Club and other night clubs in Frankfurt, she moved to Vienna, Austria where she ran a spotlight for her first musical, Elisabeth, at the Raimund Theater.
Finally relocating back to Buffalo in 2014, Katie worked as a freelance stagehand and lighting designer for several years, designing for local theatres including The American Repertory Theater of WNY, Road Less Traveled Productions, and Curtain Up Productions at the Historic Palace Theatre.
After joining the Buffalo stagehand union IATSE Local 10, Katie began touring as a lighting technician and front light operator. She has toured North America with A Christmas Story: the Musical, Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes, Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked.
When she is not on the road, Katie is the head electrician at Shea’s 710 Theatre and works in various venues across Western New York as a stagehand for IATSE 10.
